Congratulations on the release of Magical Matthew. Please tell us more about it.

About the book:

Matthew has a big secret. He can fix things magically with his mind. Matthew secretly uses his magic to fix things for his family and friends. Later, he expands his magical good deeds by fixing things in his neighborhood. Matthew’s friend, Lily, suspects something is special about him. Matthew must decide whether to tell her the truth or not.

What was the inspiration for this book?

Penelope: My book was inspired by my friend's son, Matthew, when he attained "double digits." I thought, “How Magical is that – he’s not a kid anymore!” Which led to, what if he really had magic? What would he do? And would he tell people, or keep it a secret?.

What is your favorite moment from the book?

Penelope: There are two special moments for me. First, when Matthew confides in his Grandma Nonie, showing he’s comfortable sharing his secret with a trusted adult. And, second, when he realizes he has abilities and talents beyond magic.

Penelope: Yes

I’ve had a few careers: my longest was in government service Human Resources (HR), next as a teacher of adults and children, and now as a writer and book reviewer. In most of my positions, I’ve been able to write and teach others. English Literature was my undergraduate Liberal Arts major and Education my Masters program.

Kristen Zajac was inspired to write Ebeneezer's Cousin in tribute to the courageous military families she met and worked with at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Before becoming an author, Kristen worked at United States Central Command, MacDill AFB, as an Associate for Booz Allen Hamilton, writing threat assessments for deployed service members. Prior to that, Kristen worked at FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C. as an analyst in the Counterterrorism Division. She was awarded a 1997 Presidential Management Fellowship in Washington, D.C. by the Office of Personnel Management. After having been an elementary school teacher, a management consultant with New Options, Inc. in New York City and a university professor of education, Nancy now writes children’s books full time. Kit Grady has always loved to draw. One of her earliest projects was a drawing in big black crayon of a life-sized playmate on the outside of her parent's brick house. She drew a jump rope in one of the playmate's hands that circled around the house, connecting at the other hand. She learned quickly what drawing paper was for. She continued her passion studying art at Virginia Commonwealth University and later studied under Caldecott winners Uri Shulevitz and Gale Haley.

She and her husband, Kevin Scott Collier, are represented by the Hartline Literary Agency.

Kevin is the author of other many children's books, including"barthpenn@heaven.org" and "Esther's Channel." He also has illustrated over 40 children's books, including "Topsy Turvy Land," written by Donna J. Shepherd, which World Magazine (Dec. 6, 2006 issue) voted one ofthe top 50 children's picture books of all time.

Susan J Berger is a writer and an actress. She’s performs in a lot of live theatre including the Broadway production of the musical "The Robber Bridegroom" and the National tour of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” Her TV appearances include M*A*S*H and Hannah Montana. She got her first series in 2009 - Warren the Ape for MTV .

Susan has three books published by GAP. JAMIE’S DREAM is written by Susan and her son Christopher Corbin and illustrated by Kim Sponaugle. EARTHQUAKE! is a non fiction book for grade 2-4, illustrated by Eugene Ruble and produced by Lynda Burch. Earthquake won an Honorable mention in the 2008 Green Book awards.
