Congratulations on the release of Mice in My Tummy. Please tell us more about it.
About the book:
Mice in My Tummy is about a kindergartener named Sami
Rae. She loves school but finds it hard
sometimes. Whenever the teacher asks
Sami Rae to count or say the alphabet, she feels funny movements in her tummy.
After this happens two or three times, she decides a family of mice have moved
into her tummy. At her dance recital, she finds out her best friend Sarah has
butterflies living in her tummy. All
ends well when Sami Rae talks to her dance teacher and finds out being nervous
is normal and happens to everyone.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Andi: My daughter Samantha came home from kindergarten one
day and very seriously informed me that mice where living in her tummy. I sat down with her and she told me how hard
kindergarten was sometimes. After
speaking with her, I realized our young children have a lot of stress in their
lives but don’t have the words to describe it.
My hope is to give words and reassurance to our youngest school
children.
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Andi: My favorite moment is when Sami Rae realizes her
friend Sarah is nervous also. When they let their dance teacher know what they
are feeling, she validates their feelings and lets them know it’s okay to be
nervous.
Is this your first published book?
Andi: This is my second published book. It is in its second printing due to
unforeseen events from its first printing with a different publisher.
We’d love to hear more about you.
Andi: I am always full of ideas. I bought a small tape
recorder so that whenever I have an idea I can record it. My memory is getting worse and I tend to
forget to write down great thoughts I have.
This method of cataloging my ideas is working out famously for me!
I have been super fortunate in belonging to some great
critique groups and my illustrator Kevin Collier is amazing!
I find this funny:
People will say there is an author among us and I will look around,
wondering who it is.
How can our readers learn more about you and any upcoming Mice
in My Tummy events?
Andi: I keep my
facebook page updated: https://www.facebook.com/AndiHoudek. I would love to hear from my readers!
Thank you for stopping in to share Mice in My Tummy
with us. Readers can order their copy here. We are proud to add it to the
ever-growing line of quality titles from Guardian Angel
Publishing.

Thanks for the interview. I love the concept of this book, as children do experience a good bit of stress in their own little worlds.
Great interview! I wish I had had this when my boys were little...they often had mice in their tummies!
Andi, you've come a long way, baby!!
Your book sounds delightful, and I love the cover. May you sell thousands to lucky kids.
