Congratulations on the release of KATRINA AND WINTER:
PARTNERS IN COURAGE. Please tell us more about it.
All Katrina Simpkins longs to be is a normal girl. Because
she must wear prosthesis as a leg, she feels anything but. When she meets and
befriends Winter, the tailless dolphin, at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium,
everything changes, including Katrina’s whole life.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Nancy: I first saw a video about Katrina’s life at the
Clearwater Marine Aquarium about four years ago and was so touched by it. About a year later, I received a phone call
one evening from a woman named Maria Simpkins.
After speaking with her a minute, I realized she was Katrina’s mom! She’d called to ask if I would be interested
in writing a biography of Katrina’s life.
Seems she’d seen my books and had visited my blog. Without much thought, I immediately said,
“Yes.” Only after I got into the
writing process, did I realize how much I wanted this to be perfect for
Katrina!
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Nancy: It has to be the first time Katrina gets to meet
Winter in the water. Winter swims right
up to Katrina and puts her head on Katrina’s shoulder. The beginning of a miracle…
Is this your first published book?
Nancy: No, I am also the author of the four Bella and Britt
books, all published by Guardian Angel Publishing.
We’d love to hear more about you.
Nancy: I am the bestselling and award winning author of the
four Bella and Britt Series books for children: One Pelican at a Time (eighteen weeks on Amazon Bestselling
List), Sea Turtle Summer, (won Children’s Literary Classics Seal of Approval)
Bella Saves the Beach and Mystery at Manatee Key. All are published by Guardian
Angel Publishing.
One Pelican at a Time and I were featured in the PBS Tampa
special, GulfWatch. Pelican has won the
Literary Classics Seal of Approval, Readers Favorite Five Star Award and was
nominated for a Global eBook Award.
I am a frequent speaker and presenter at writing conferences
throughout the United States. I conduct
workshops and seminars and speak to school children on writing and helping save
their planet. A blogger with a
worldwide audience, I love to write of all things pertaining to writing for
children.
I am fortunate to have been extensively throughout the
world, most particularly Africa and am the US chair of a charity in Lamu,
Kenya, that places girls in intermediate schools to allow them to further their
education.
My husband and I divide our time between Tampa and St.
Louis.
Do you have any book signing events or book tours
scheduled for Katrina and Winter:
Partners in Courage?
Nancy: I am in the middle of an on-going tour with Pump
Up Your Book. In early June, 2012,
Katrina and I are appearing in a feature on Channel 10, Tampa with Ginger
Gadsden, Morning Anchor. On June 9,
2012, Katrina and I are appearing at a Book Nook Celebration at the St.
Petersburg, FL Pier Aquarium. I will be
conducting an Intensives Workshop on non-fiction at the Summer SWCBI Conference
in Orlando, June 15-16, 2012.
Wow, that all sounds very exciting! How can our readers
learn more about you and any upcoming Katrina and Winter: Partners in Courage events?

It is always a pleasure for us to share the story behind the story of our fabulous GAP books.
I'm anxious to read this one...Such a compliment that you were chosen to write this inspiring story!
Katrina and Winter is an inspiring story for anyone struggling to be "normal" like Katrina. Nancy presented her story beautifully.
