GAP FAMILY BLOG WELCOMES: Jennifer Prus, Author of A Toddler’s ABC of Blessings
Posted in A Toddler's ABC of Blessings,author interview,GAP new releases,Jennifer Prus,Wings of Faith |
12:30 AM | by Kai Strand, Author
Congratulations on the release of A Toddler’s ABC of
Blessings. Please tell us more
about it.
About the book: A
Toddler’s ABC of Blessings is truly a snuggle book, allowing readers to follow
along as a toddler shares his adorable blessings using the alphabet; from
angels who watch over him, mud puddles to jump into before mass, to zebras that
traveled on Noah's ark. Children will love the playful rhymes and colorful
illustrations.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Jennifer: When my oldest was a young child, I was looking around
various book stores for a Christian themed alphabet book to share. When I was unable to find one, I decided to
write one.
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Jennifer: I truly have enjoyed every part of the book, from
writing it to brainstorming the illustrations with artist Alyssa McIlhany. Ms. McIlhany has done a beautiful job
bringing the book to life with her gorgious water color paintings.
Is this your first published book?
Jennifer: No, I have also written the children’s picture
book, Lonely Little Leaf.
We’d love to hear more about you.
Jennifer: I’m currently a stay-at-home mother of two
wonderful children. As one who adores
snuggle time while reading with my own children, it thrills me to be an author
and illustrator, knowing my work will be shared during such tender moments for
others.
Do you have any book signing events or book tours
scheduled for A Toddler’s ABC of Blessings?
I will be having a book signing at Falling Rock Café and
Bookstore, located in beautiful Munising, Michigan on Saturday, July 14th. Join us of a story reading and craft!
How can our readers learn more about you and any upcoming
A Toddler’s ABC of Blessings events?

GAP FAMILY BLOG WELCOMES JENNIFER REED, AUTHOR OF ROMEO’S RESCUE
Posted in animals and pets,author interview,GAP new releases,Jennifer Reed,Romeo's Rescue |
11:56 AM | by Kai Strand, Author
Congratulations on the release of Romeo’s Rescue.
Please tell us more about it.
About the book:
This is a story about a cat, who after a lot of trials and
tribulations, finds a forever home.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Jennifer: We have a feral cat problem in the rural areas
that we live. A neighbor, along with myself, made it our mission to stop the
population of cats and to take care of those cats that decided to make our
property their home. We’ve spaded and neutered and vaccinated many cats, found
homes for kittens, and provide food and shelter.
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Jennifer: Of course when Romeo finds the two children and
they take him in.
Is this your first published book?
Jennifer: No
We’d love to hear more about you.
Jennifer: I’ve been writing and publishing for nearly twenty
years. Romeo’s Rescue is my 28th book published for children, and my
third with Guardian Angel. I had my own online magazine called Wee Ones for
about eight years, taught at the Institute of Children’s Literature (eight
years), and wrote for many children’s magazines including Highlights, Boys’
Life, and Hopscotch. Currently I teach part time at a Christian high school and
am a full time graduate student at Vermont College of Fine Arts. My degree will
be in Writing for Children and Young Adults.
Wee Ones was a great magazine. I know a lot of people who
miss it still.
How can our readers learn more about you and any upcoming
Romeo’s Rescue events?
Jennifer: Reader’s can visit the Guardian Angel website
until my own website www.jennifer-reed.com
is updated. Or, they can find me on Facebook under Jennifer Reed, author.

GAP FAMILY BLOG WELCOMES LINDA DERKEZ, AUTHOR OF CHIP’S SHARING DAY
Posted in Chip's Sharing Day,GAP new releases,Linda Derkez,Littlest Angel book |
11:44 AM | by Kai Strand, Author
Congratulations
on the release of CHIP’S SHARING DAY. Please tell us more about it. What was
the inspiration for this book?
Cousin Dorcas
is visiting today and Chip's mother tells him he must share his toys because
it's kind and nice and fair to share. Shy Dorcas picks up one toy after the
other, only to have that rascal Chip remind her that they have to share and
take turns playing with his toys. Finally, Dorcas decides to be kind and nice
and fair by sharing something with Chip that he might not actually want! Chip
finds himself reluctantly admiring his cousin for beating him at his own game.
Linda:
The inspiration for this book were real teddy bears that I gave voices and
personalities to. Chip was a cute stuffed bear, but I could tell he was quite
naughty. J
What is
your favorite moment from the book?
Linda:
When shy Cousin Dorcas earns Chip's respect with her trick.
Is this
your first published book?
Linda: My
first book was another for children. The Missing Stories: Caleb’s Missing Whisper
& Other Stories was
published by Hard Shell Word Factory, but it’s no longer
available.
We’d love
to hear more about you.
Linda: I
get inspired by many things: The things my children do and shouldn't, and don't
do and should! Animals, stuffed animals and dolls inspire me. They have so much
personality sometimes, they write their own stories.
How can
our readers learn more about you and any upcoming events?
Linda:
Visit my website: http://www.angelfire.com/stars4/kswiesner/linda.html
Thank you
for stopping in to share CHIP’S SHARING DAY with us. Readers, you can order
your own copy here.
We are proud to add it to the ever-growing line of quality titles from Guardian Angel

The inviting visual will take the reader on a turn page style adventure with the
click of the mouse accompanied with the sound of turning a page in your hand.
Without further ado, we present the Guardian Angel Kids Growing Up June 2012
issue…
The
carefree days of childhood invokes memories of lazy days of summer vacation
filled with days of swimming at the town pool. It was the central social point
of the neighborhood and the excitement of the day would then flow onto our cul-de-sac (after the children of the neighborhood ate
their respective suppers) where there was always a stick ball game going on
until the single street light flickered on. Quickly we would change gears and
switch to playing flashlight tag. My mother, always an avid reader, made sure
her children read each and every day and to this day we all have instilled the
same love of reading with our own children. Without lapsing in our reading
skills throughout the summer we were always well prepared with our studies. The
days appeared endless and before you knew it, it was time for back to school
shopping.
The love of
reading has led me to the path of writing for children and Editor-in-Chief of
Guardian Angel Publishing, for which I’m joyful for and proud to present the Guardian Angel Kids
June 2012 issue of Growing Up www.guardian-angel-kids.com.
We hope
you enjoy our issue of Growing Up as much the Guardian Angel Kid staff did
reminiscing about our childhoods and selecting the wonderful poetry, stories,
articles, and activities.

GAP FAMILY BLOG WELCOMES NANCY STEWART, AUTHOR OF KATRINA AND WINTER: PARTNERS IN COURAGE
Posted in Academic Wings,GAP new releases,Katrina and Winter: Partners in Courage,Nancy Stewart,One Pelican at a Time,Sea Turtle Summer |
11:05 AM | by Kai Strand, Author
Congratulations on the release of KATRINA AND WINTER:
PARTNERS IN COURAGE. Please tell us more about it.
All Katrina Simpkins longs to be is a normal girl. Because
she must wear prosthesis as a leg, she feels anything but. When she meets and
befriends Winter, the tailless dolphin, at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium,
everything changes, including Katrina’s whole life.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Nancy: I first saw a video about Katrina’s life at the
Clearwater Marine Aquarium about four years ago and was so touched by it. About a year later, I received a phone call
one evening from a woman named Maria Simpkins.
After speaking with her a minute, I realized she was Katrina’s mom! She’d called to ask if I would be interested
in writing a biography of Katrina’s life.
Seems she’d seen my books and had visited my blog. Without much thought, I immediately said,
“Yes.” Only after I got into the
writing process, did I realize how much I wanted this to be perfect for
Katrina!
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Nancy: It has to be the first time Katrina gets to meet
Winter in the water. Winter swims right
up to Katrina and puts her head on Katrina’s shoulder. The beginning of a miracle…
Is this your first published book?
Nancy: No, I am also the author of the four Bella and Britt
books, all published by Guardian Angel Publishing.
We’d love to hear more about you.
Nancy: I am the bestselling and award winning author of the
four Bella and Britt Series books for children: One Pelican at a Time (eighteen weeks on Amazon Bestselling
List), Sea Turtle Summer, (won Children’s Literary Classics Seal of Approval)
Bella Saves the Beach and Mystery at Manatee Key. All are published by Guardian
Angel Publishing.
One Pelican at a Time and I were featured in the PBS Tampa
special, GulfWatch. Pelican has won the
Literary Classics Seal of Approval, Readers Favorite Five Star Award and was
nominated for a Global eBook Award.
I am a frequent speaker and presenter at writing conferences
throughout the United States. I conduct
workshops and seminars and speak to school children on writing and helping save
their planet. A blogger with a
worldwide audience, I love to write of all things pertaining to writing for
children.
I am fortunate to have been extensively throughout the
world, most particularly Africa and am the US chair of a charity in Lamu,
Kenya, that places girls in intermediate schools to allow them to further their
education.
My husband and I divide our time between Tampa and St.
Louis.
Do you have any book signing events or book tours
scheduled for Katrina and Winter:
Partners in Courage?
Nancy: I am in the middle of an on-going tour with Pump
Up Your Book. In early June, 2012,
Katrina and I are appearing in a feature on Channel 10, Tampa with Ginger
Gadsden, Morning Anchor. On June 9,
2012, Katrina and I are appearing at a Book Nook Celebration at the St.
Petersburg, FL Pier Aquarium. I will be
conducting an Intensives Workshop on non-fiction at the Summer SWCBI Conference
in Orlando, June 15-16, 2012.
Wow, that all sounds very exciting! How can our readers

Guardian Angel Kids: Proud to be American – May 2012 Issue
Do you recall a
time when someone said they were proud of you? How did it make you feel? Did you
stand a wee bit taller? I know for myself the memory of my parents stating they
were proud of me made me want to do better each day. Have you ever taken it one
step further and thought what it means to be a proud American? As American
citizens we live in a democracy where we have freedom of speech and religion,
the right to our own opinion, freedom to choose where we want to live and work,
and the opportunity for an education. These freedoms do not just come along
without sacrifice. The United States military continually serves and protects
the American citizens from communist and terrorist beliefs allowing us to live
the American dream of freedom for all.
We invite you to

"Proud to be American " through rich history poetry, the sacrifices of military
families, embracing American freedom, the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance,

GAP Family Blog Welcomes Lynda Burch, and Guardian Angel Kids Ezine
Posted in activities,children's online magazine,GAK,Guardian Angel Kids Ezine,interactive reading,Lynda Burch |
12:34 PM | by Kai Strand, Author
GAP Family Blog welcomes Lynda Burch, owner and publisher of Guardian Angel Kids Ezine.
Thank you for visiting with us, Lynda. Can you tell us what Guardian Angel Kids Ezine is, please?
Lynda: The monthly
ezine is a way for kids to experience a hands-on computer interactive magazine
to read, learn, and play games.
What was your inspiration behind the magazine?
Lynda: My
granddaughter at two could play online games on nationally recognized sites, but
could have twenty or more pop-up ads get in the way of the fun. I thought that they don’t
need that interference of companies trying to sell them products. They just want to play
the games. So I wanted to provide that venue and also provide a site for our books,
characters, authors, and artists to be shared with an audience.
What makes GAK appeal to kids?
Lynda: Playing the
games, reading the stories and poems, watching the videos, doing the
activities, and interacting are great ways to entertain kids.
What makes GAK appeal to their parents?
Lynda: It is
educational. It offers free entertainment. It is ecologically sound—no trees
destroyed here. There are even parent/teacher
articles.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us about
Guardian Angel Kids?
Lynda: I hope that
kids and parents take advantage of this free tool for fun and learning.
Readers: be sure to visit the electronic magazine’s site often for fun, safe, interactive, and always free entertainment for your children. The brand new May 2012 issue, Proud to be an American, is available now!

GAP FAMILY BLOG WELCOMES Janet Ann Collins, AUTHOR OF Slime & All
Posted in animals and pets,GAP new releases,Guardian Angel books,Janet Ann Collins,Slime and All |
11:47 AM | by Kai Strand, Author
Congratulations on the release of Slime & All. Please tell us more about it.
About the book:
Janet: The giant worm, Lump, lives on a farm but the
other animals run away from him. He escapes to a town and meets Jake, who takes
him to a park where he plays with other kids. This early chapter book for young
readers encourages them to think about accepting those who are different.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Janet: I often pick up and rescue earthworms stranded on
sidewalks on rainy days while many people find them disgusting. That reminded
me of the way some people react to others who have special needs or are
different in other ways so I wondered what life would be like for a giant worm.
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Janet: I like the part where he gives the kids a ride on his
back.
Is this your first published book?
Janet: No, I’ve already had three others published by
Guardian Angel Publishing. The titles are The Peril of the Sinister Scientist, Secret Service Saint, and Signs of Trouble. The editor finds it amusing that all the
titles contain words beginning with the letter, S.
We’d love to hear more about you.
Janet: Thanks. Besides being an author I’m a grandmother and
a substitute teacher. I worked at California School for the Deaf for many
years, my husband and I raised three deaf sons with various special needs in
addition to our birth daughter and I’ve worked with a lot of Special Ed
students in schools. I think public speaking is fun and would love to do more
of it.
Do you have any book signing events or book tours scheduled
for Slime & All?
Janet: Not at the moment. I did sell some books at a
conference where I spoke last month.
How can our readers learn more about you and any upcoming Slime & All events?
Janet: Please visit my website, http://www.janetanncollins.com
Thank you for stopping in to share Slime & All with us. Readers can purchase a copy direct
from GAP’s website.
We are proud to add it to the ever-growing line of quality titles from Guardian Angel
Publishing.

GAP FAMILY BLOG WELCOMES ALEX MORRIS,
ILLUSTRATOR OF SLIME & ALL and WATER PLAY.
GAP: Congratulations on the release of SLIME &
ALL and WATER PLAY. Please tell us more about them.
Alex: “Slime & All” is the story of a little boy
who befriends a giant, friendly, but slimy worm.
“Water Play” talks about how rain, snow, and hail are formed
in a fun and playful way for children.
GAP: What medium did you use for illustrating these
books? How do you choose?
Alex: When starting a book I always use pencil and
paper to start, and when the drawings are finished I scan them into the
computer and color them in Flash. I like using this program because it is quick
and easy to use, and with the style I draw with I feel using the simple colors
of Flash really complements the pictures and gives the characters life.
GAP: What is your favorite illustration from each
book? Why?
Alex: In “Slime & All” my favorite drawing is
definitely page 4. I like this picture because I love drawing cartoon animal
characters and this picture allowed me to draw the worm character, Lump, in
full.
For “Water Play” my favorite picture is page 13 mostly
because the Dew Drop characters were my favorite to draw and I simply feel that
it is the best picture both in color and composition.
GAP: Did you have to do any research for these books?
Alex: I had to do quite a bit of research for “Water
Play” because when it comes to drawing buildings, it has never really been my
strong point. So I like to look up pictures of various buildings and
environments for reference.
GAP: Are these your first published books?
Alex: No, actually my first published book was Lily
and the City of Light. It was a big milestone for me, and it helps to
remind me of where I have been and where I hope to go in my career one day.
GAP: We’d love to hear more about you.
Alex: Well, as you know my name is Alex Morris. Since
middle school when I visited an art college I knew I wanted to pursue a career
as an artist. Through the rest of middle school and all of high school I spent
a lot of time in the back of the class doodling whatever came to mind, which
usually was monsters, mutants, and scary clowns.
Attending college was a real wake up call for me and really
pushed me to be the best artist I could be. It also helped me to explore
different avenues in my drawings and it was then that one of my first cartoon
characters, a sad little amphibian named Danny Frog was created. From there I
started drawing more cartoon characters. Many of them a form of my personality
or representations of friends I know.
But after college I received my first official illustrating
job and drew my first children’s book, “Monty and the Rolling Rock”. Shortly
thereafter, with the help of my head illustrator, at the time, Mr. Collier, I
started working for Guardian Angel Publishing, and the rest as they say is
history.
