This is a story about how people and animals bond and help
each other. A young boy, Peter, wants
to get all 48 of his cousins together for his birthday. But the planes and trains are full, so Peter
and his US cousins build a balloon. A
pilot friend helps Peter fly it to Canada to pick up Peter’s other twenty-four
cousins. Along the way, they rescue an injured goose. On their return trip, the
balloon loses its instruments and gets lost, but the goose, Sulgrave, rescues
them.
What was the inspiration for this book?
Elizabeth: I have several friends who are balloonists and
who introduce children to this wonderful hobby. Also, we live on the water and have many resident Canada geese that
we have come to know and love.
What is your favorite moment from the book?
Elizabeth: My favorite moment occurs when Sulgrave, the
goose, returns to rescue the balloon with Peter and his cousins.
Is this your first published book?
No, I have two published novels, both mysteries: Do You See Him Now? and FUGO.
I started
my career in public broadcasting. I
have always written – although until five years ago, I specialized in technical
articles and monographs for my teaching (communications, management). Some years ago, I moved into the field of
communications satellites. Today, I
consult in the communications field and also do volunteer work with the YMCA
and various arts organizations. Hobbies
include singing, sailing, golf, traveling, and reading. I have another children’s book under way as
well as two more mysteries.
